O Museu Americano de História Natural apresentou um vídeo de seis minutos, que mostra como a população da Terra cresceu nos últimos 200 mil anos - desde o advento do Homo Sapiens até os dias atuais.
A partir destes dados conclui-se que a marca de um bilhão foi alcançada apenas na virada do século XIX; desde então este número já cresceu sete vezes e vai continuar a crescer no futuro. Os cientistas acreditam que até 2100 a Terra terá cerca de 11 bilhões de pessoas.
